Kaesang denies being proposed by Jokowi as Jakarta governor candidate – Politics

Aesang Pangarep, the younger son of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, has rejected a claim by the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) that his father is nominating him to various political parties as a candidate in the upcoming regional elections.

In his official statement on Thursday, Kaesang, who chairs the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), said his father had never proposed his name to any political parties.

“The general secretary of the PKS did not speak based on the facts. Pack Jokowi never proposed my name to any party. Please check or name which party Pack “Jokowi proposed (my name). It’s a lie to the public,” Kaesang said.

He further stressed that the PSI had secured seats in the local council to nominate its own member who would be supported by a coalition of parties for the Jakarta gubernatorial race, and that party leaders, including himself, had the ability to decide which candidate would eventually run for Jakarta’s top post.

“As president, I have full authority to determine who will be nominated by the PSI. This authority belongs to the party leaders, so let’s wait. Don’t mention the president, I am the party president,” Kaesang noted.

“This regional election must be free from fake news, because it is harmful to society. In addition, it will also be harmful to those who like to spread such fake news,” he continued, adding that the PKS could have make suggestion to close the door to any coalition cooperation with PSI.
