Men’s Ice Hockey Announces Class of 2028

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men’s ice hockey team will welcome eight new freshmen to the program this season (July 1). Coach Donato and the Crimson will add four forwards, two defensemen and two goaltenders to the roster for the 2024-25 season.

One of the youngest teams in the country, the Crimson battled through the 23-24 season to secure their home berth in the first round of the ECAC playoffs. After winning at least one round of the playoffs in every season since 2013-14, the Crimson lost to the eventual ECAC champions, the Cornell Big Red, in two very close games in Ithaca.

Returning most of its core from last season, Harvard looks to build on a successful season with key performers, Ian Moore, Zakary Karpa, Joe Miller, Ryan Healey, Jack barAnd Aku Koskenvuo is expected to return for the Crimson next season.

Played with the Cape Cod Whalers from 2019-2023… Was enrolled in ice hockey all four years at Dexter Southfield… Received the 2023 John Carlton Award for Outstanding Massachusetts High School Student-Athletes… Selected in the 6^th Round (173^rd (overall) of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres… Parents are Eileen and Sean Keohane.

Mick Thompson | Attacker | Mississauga, Ont. | Chicago Steel (USHL) | Bergen Catholic High

Played with the Chicago Steel of the USHL from 2021 to 2024… Finished the 2024 season with 63 points (24 goals, 39 assists) in 54 games with a plus-minus rating of plus-24… Became the 10^th All-time Chicago Steel player to reach 100 career points… Previously played for the North Jersey Avalanche Under-16 AAA program… Served as captain… Also previously played for the Toronto Junior Canadians AAA …Played at Bergen Catholic High School…Served as an assistant captain for the 2020-21 season…Was Bergen Catholic college hockey MVP…Received the Bergen Catholic Matt Radoslovich Award for Most Valuable Player of points in a single season… Named to the Bergen Catholic School principal’s list… Member of the National Honor Society… Named NJ.com Top Junior… Was named to the All-State first team… Named to the first All-Non-Public Team… Named to the All North Jersey First Team… Named to the All-County First Team… Named to the All Gordon Conference First Team… Named to the All-Team Forward Jersey Sports Zone… Parents are Darren and Stacey Thompson .

William McDonough | Forward | Duxbury, Mass. | Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL)

Played with the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL from 2021-24… Previously played for the Boston Advantage Hockey Club… Played for the USNDTP during the 2021-22 season… Selected and played in the 2023 Biosteel All-American Game… Played for Team USA at the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup… Drafted 2^sd overall in the 2021 USHL Draft… Played one season of lacrosse at Duxbury High School… His parents are Shawn and Julie McDonough… His father, Shawn, played hockey at Hobart College (1990-1994).

Ben Charette | Goaltender | Aurora, Ontario. | Whitecourt Wolverines (AJHL)

Played with the Whitecourt Wolverines of the AJHL from 2022-2024… Named AJHL Goaltender of the Year (2023-24)… Had the best save percentage in the AJHL (.925) and best goals against average (2.40)… Received the AJHL Team Goalie Award for fewest goals allowed by a team in the regular season… Named Whitecourt Wolverine team MVP… Previously played for the New Jersey Titans of the NAHL during the 2021-22 season where he helped them win the NAHL Championship… Parents are Chris and Sue.

Justin Solovey | Forward | Holmdel, NJ. | Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL) | Lawrenceville School

Played with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL from 2022 to 2024… Served as an assistant captain… Finished the 2023-2024 season with 47 points (25 goals, 22 assists) in 55 games and a plus-15 rating… Already has played with the New Jersey Jr. Titans… Parents are Irene and Jimmy Solovey.

Lucas Saint-Louis | Defense | Old Greenwich, Connecticut. | Dubuque Fighting Saints (USHL) | Brunswick School

Played with the Dubuque Fighting Saints from 2022-24… Served as an alternate captain for the 2023-24 season… Named 2023 USHL Scholar-Athlete of the Year… Named to the 2022 All-NEPSAC First Team… Named to the USHL All – Academic team… Brother, Ryan, plays hockey at Brown… Father, Martin, played in the NHL from 2000 to 2015 and is the current coach of the Montreal Canadiens.

Evan Zhang | Goalkeeper | Sherborn, MA | Roxbury Latin School

Played with the Cape Cod Whalers from 2021-2024…Played for the Neoponset Valley River Rats from 2020-2021…Earned letters in ice hockey, lacrosse, and track in high school…Captained the hockey team his senior year…Received ISL Honorable Mention…Received ISL All-League…Was an AP Scholar with Distinction…Parents are Sizping Hu and Frank Zhang…Sister, Angelina Zhang, is a graduate of Harvard College, Class of 2024.
