Local fireworks show postponed amid safety concerns

VERNON, Texas (KAUZ) – A local fireworks show set to take place next week was postponed by city officials amid safety concerns.

Pam Gosline, the mayor of Vernon, released a statement on June 28 explaining the reason for moving the event.

In her statement, she said recent weather conditions prompted the city to postpone the July fireworks show.

“I am sorry, I know many will be disappointed, but the safety of our citizens comes first. There are many homes, pastureland and livestock that could be affected should a fire break out. “Mother nature just isn’t cooperating with us,” Gosline said.

Gosline said the City plans to release a new date and location, given the weather permits.

“The City of Vernon hopes each and every one of you have a wonderful and safe July 4th holiday. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment,” Gosline said.

The City also issued a reminder that fireworks are not allowed to be set off within Vernon city limits.
