DISTURBED’s DAVID DRAIMAN records an a cappella version of “The Sound Of Silence” with Israeli band HELLSCORE

During his recent visit to Israel, DISTURBED leader David Draiman entered a Tel Aviv studio and recorded an a cappella version of the SIMON & GARFUNKEL classic “The sound of silence” accompanied by SCORE FROM HELLa Tel Aviv-based choir that adapts heavy metal songs. According to the Jerusalem Post, he spent another day filming a music video for the song, which is expected to be released in the coming weeks.

“He was the warmest person; you could tell he was 100% committed to the cause we are all fighting for,” SCORE FROM HELL choirmaster Noah Gruman said The Jerusalem Post. “He is so genuine, open and friendly. It was like he was one of us working on the same level. It was comforting and an honor to work with him.”

Draiman said The Jerusalem Post that he was satisfied with the results of the hastily planned project.

“It was a challenge trying to come together at the last minute, but it worked out really well,” he said. “It’s poignant and haunting.”

Last month, the official music video for DISTURBEDthe cover of “The sound of silence” has officially surpassed one billion views on Youtube.

The clip, which was uploaded to Youtube in December 2015, marked DISTURBEDThis is the first song to reach this milestone.

“The sound of silence” originally appeared on DISTURBEDThe sixth studio album by, “Immortalized”released in August 2015.

In November 2019, video of DISTURBEDthe performance of “The sound of silence” in the March 28, 2016 episode of Conan O’Brienthe nightly talk show, “Conan”exceeded 100 million views on Youtubebecoming the first “Conan” clip to reach the cape.

DISTURBEDthe studio version of “The sound of silence” went to #1 on the Billboard Hard Rock and Mainstream Rock magazine and became the band’s highest-charting Top 100 single. It was also used in the soundtrack of “The Black List” and video games “Rock Band 4”.

Draiman told the Colorado Springs Independent that he and his bandmates had no idea any of this would happen when they recorded the song and decided to release it as a single and music video.

“How could we?” he asked. “It was really, like, unprecedented. I never in a thousand years would have dreamed that it would become so massive and be used in all the places I’ve heard it used, figure skating, ‘Dancing with the stars’with the September 11 Memorial and receiving the blessing of Paul Simonwhen we met him in Maui. The surreal stuff doesn’t cover it.”

Last March, a remix of DISTURBEDcover of “The sound of silence” by an Australian DJ/producer Cyril Riley landed at No. 34 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. A month earlier, the same version of the song had reached No. 1 on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart.
