Fayette County Announces LSA Grant Recipients

Among the winners are four projects from the Mon Valley.

Several Mon Valley communities in Fayette County received Local Action Account grants during a recent ceremony hosted by the Fayette County Board of Commissioners.

The commissioners selected 19 projects which will receive a total of $588,896 in funding.

Local projects and organizations included in this group are:

• Renovations of the Perryopolis sports field.

• Traffic safety improvements in Washington Township.

• OST programming for at-risk youth from One Voice, One Community.

• Fayette County Association for the Blind equipment upgrades.

Commissioner Vince Vicites said the LSA grant is a great way to give back to the community.

“All classes of LSA funding recipients have been special. Each grant application had a unique approach to community development with great ideas on how to improve their communities,” Vicites said. “The LSA program is beneficial to Fayette County because it has reinvested more than $6 million in our communities and helped make the county a better place to live.

The LSA grant is funded by gaming revenue from the Lady Luck Casino in Nemacolin, Wharton Township.

Nonprofits, community organizations and municipalities in Fayette County are eligible to apply for the grant and are encouraged to apply for multiple years.

Since the Local Share Account program’s inception, it has awarded more than $6.1 million to 165 different applicants.

Commissioners selected the recipients and submitted their projects to the Department of Community and Economic Development, which will also distribute the funding.

“LSA grant recipients are right here at home, in your community, in the organizations that serve your community. They receive funding to do projects that directly impact the community, and ultimately, it’s the people of Fayette County, the people who live and work here, who benefit,” said Commissioner Dave Lohr.
