India clinched their second T20 World Cup title by beating South Africa by 7 runs in a nail-biting final in Barbados on Saturday, ending an 11-year ICC title drought since winning the Champions Trophy in 2013.

The Indian pacers snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, with South Africa needing 30 runs from the last 20 balls.

Hardik Pandya, who faced criticism as captain of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, silenced his critics with some brilliant bowling and batting during the tournament.

He delivered again in the final by taking the crucial wicket of Heinrich Klaasen, with the Proteas needing 26 from 24 balls, before eventually finishing with figures of 3/20 from 3 overs.

Speaking after the T20 World Cup final, Hardik Pandya expressed deep emotions, acknowledging the team’s hard work and struggle to find the winning formula but felt they had ultimately delivered what the nation aspired for.

“It’s very emotional. We worked very hard, but something was wrong. Today we achieved what the whole nation wanted,” ” said an emotional Hardik.

He reflected on his difficult journey over the past six months, emphasizing his belief that perseverance would ultimately allow him to shine.

“Things have been very unfair, but I believe that if I continue to work hard, there will come a time when I can shine and do what I have always done. Winning was a dream, and having an opportunity like this makes it even more special,” added the slender all-rounder.

Hardik Pandya further thanked his teammates, especially praising the pacers for applying pressure and executing their plans effectively. He also expressed his satisfaction towards coach Rahul Dravid, highlighting their strong relationship and the important role of the support staff in this victory.

“We always believed we could do it; it was about executing our plans and letting the pressure come to them. Kudos to Jassi and the other bowlers for changing everything. I am very happy for Rahul Dravid, I really enjoyed working with him. To say goodbye to him like this is wonderful. I had a great relationship with him,” Hardik pointed out.

With this victory, India not only lifted the trophy but also regained its place at the pinnacle of world cricket.
