England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford receives offer for family tree

Derby’s Pickford’s House museum has offered to trace the family tree of its England goalkeeper namesake in exchange for Euro 2024 glory.

Dr Alex Rock, Director of Operations at Derby Museums, says he will be happy to research the roots of Jordan Pickford’s family and uncover any links to Joseph Pickford, the esteemed Georgian architect whose site bears the name.

The commitment comes ahead of England’s first knockout match against Slovakia in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday at 5pm BST.

Of the venue, Dr Rock said: “It was once the home of Joseph Pickford and his wife Mary. Joseph built it as his big show home – he would bring his clients in and show them around and say ‘look what I can do’.

“His name is in the history books and I think it’s time Jordan Pickford puts his name in the history books too.

“If he keeps a clean sheet, saves a few penalties, here’s my offer – Jordan Pickford, come and see me, we’ll look at your family tree.

“Pickford is quite a rare name and I think if we go back a few generations we will find that you are probably distantly related to Joseph and Mary.”

The roving journalist Jack nevertheless managed to temporarily, unofficially, rename a number of other places in Derby.

Using non-permanent adhesive paper and markers, Luke Shaw Street, Kyle Walker Lane, Jude Bellingham Court, Gareth Southgate Retail Park and even the Trent Alexander-Arnold River were named across the city – at least for a few hours .

No signs were damaged in an effort to put a smile on the faces of English Derby fans.
