Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (HUR) carried out a cyberattack on several facilities in Russian-occupied Crimea on June 27, an agency source confirmed to the Kyiv Independent.

The agency attacked Russia’s largest research center Internet providers operating in the peninsula a day earlier.

The attacks targeted servers of propaganda media, telecommunications operators and the traffic recording and control system on the illegally built Kerch Bridge (Crimea), the source said.

The operation of local accounting systems has reportedly been hampered, while cash registers at retail outlets in Kerch and Sevastopol have also been disabled. Massive phishing attacks against local Internet users continue, the source added.

The mass DDoS attack hit the website of Russian propaganda outlet Kerch FM and the servers of mobile operator Miranda Media, which provides communication channels to the Sevastopol authorities’ call center.

The traffic recording and control system was also attacked, resulting in a long line of cars trying to cross the Kerch Bridge.

“In one hour, the traffic jams increased sixfold and in the morning there were around 300 cars in the queue,” the source said.
