Comedian Daniel Fernandes’ Hyderabad show cancelled after BJP MP T Raja Singh threatens, check details

It is not uncommon for comedy shows to be cancelled. Munawar Faruqui’s show in Bangalore in 2022 was cancelled after protests from right-wing groups.

But now, comedian Daniel Fernandes’ show in Hyderabad, scheduled for 4 pm on June 29, has been canceled following threats from Goshamahal BJP MP T Raja Singh, reported thesouthfirst.com.

According to the report, Jubilee Hills police confirmed that the program was canceled citing threats from MLA. Daniel Fernandes’ show “Do you know who I am?” » was supposed to take place at Heart Cup Coffee located in Jubilee Hills.

The report added that BJP MP T Raja Singh had earlier threatened Daniel Fernandes with physical assault, in response to a joke Fernandes made about the Jain community.

Raja Singh said, as quoted by the South first“On the occasion of Bakri Eid, a comedian named Daniel Fernandes cracked bad jokes and made fun of the Jain community.”

He then threatened, “I want to remind him that you have a show in Banjara Hills today (Saturday), right? It is better that you cancel the show, otherwise our workers will come there and beat you up. You will think 50 times before coming to Telangana.”

Adding further, Raja urged the police, “We urge you to cancel his show, otherwise, the state we will make of him, everyone will remember, so that no one ever jokes about Jains or Hindu religion.”

Raja recalled the tensions created in Hyderabad when comedian Munawar Faruqui was scheduled to perform in the city in 2022. “You remember when Munawar came to perform, right? I want to make it clear that if the situation gets out of control, it is the responsibility of the police.”

Daniel Fernandes reacts:

Following the cancellation, Daniel Fernandes released a video statement.

He said on Instagram: “The video that offended people has been removed and I have already issued an apology. However, we still receive calls, messages and emails threatening violence and vandalism. No one is prepared to guarantee the safety of my audience, my team and myself. I don’t want to put anyone in danger because of something I said. »

He added that it’s okay to disagree with an artist’s work, but it’s unfair to threaten them. He also apologized to the Jain community.
