Vote Labor – end 14 years of Tory chaos and be on the right side of history on July 4

As Thursday’s historic general election approaches, Britons have an opportunity to reject the Conservative government’s misery and mistakes. It’s time to change and make a fresh start.

Fourteen years of cuts, chaos, sordidness and bungling have broken Britain and left us all poorer.

The average income of a person in a real team is £10,000 a year lower than in 2010 and the toll of nearly fifteen years of successive Conservative governments is evident everywhere. It is a legacy of records – but not the good kind. An NHS waiting list at a record high of 7.5 million, 4.3 million children living in poverty, 3 million people using food banks, 4 million children going to school hungry.

The mismanagement of our money by Prime Ministers Cameron, Johnson, Truss and Sunak has crippled public services, bankrupted councils, destroyed schools and caused massive mortgage hikes for hard-working families. Yet while the poor have become poorer, these so-called leaders have given billions to their cronies and allowed energy bosses to profit from our misery by taking home huge profits.

It’s time to change and make a fresh start. On the eve of what promises to be a historic general election on Thursday, six people from across the UK explain why they think the UK deserves better and what will help it get back on its feet: a Labor government led by Keir Starmer.

Children are hungry and cold at school

“The last 14 years have been the worst of my teaching career. The lack of funding and the increasingly dismissive and disrespectful attitude of the government has eroded trust and has had a significant impact on the lives of thousands of children. My school has seen a 10% increase in the number of children eligible for free school meals in the last three years alone, and a steady increase since this government came to power.

“Last winter my children were sitting in their classrooms in coats and gloves because the heating wasn’t working and neither the school nor the council could afford to fix it. It’s not good enough. I’m convinced that only Labour will deliver the change we need.”

I witnessed the decline of the NHS

“I don’t remember seeing ambulances queuing outside emergency departments when I started work – under a Labour government. Now it’s become normal to have 20 ambulances waiting outside an acute hospital, all with patients in the back, and you can be there for five or six hours. That means fewer ambulances to respond to 999 emergencies and patients deteriorate much more quickly when they’re waiting hours to be admitted. It’s one of the consequences of 14 years of Conservative government, during which I’ve seen a massive decline in NHS services and a gradual erosion of basic care. Over the last five years it’s gotten worse. A Labour government can’t come soon enough.”

Rising fuel bills and declining cash flow

“I know a lot of small business owners and they all say business is slowing down. Some are even struggling to put food on the table. Fuel bills are up, cash flow is down. And over the last few years we’ve seen the Conservatives act in a way that is appalling and contrary to the best interests of business.
