Carlos Alcaraz wants a double at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon, like Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer – “Ready to do it”

Carlos Alcaraz is aiming for a Roland-Garros-Wimbledon double, adding his name to an illustrious list of only five men’s singles players to have achieved this feat.

He would rank alongside Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, should the reigning champion defend his title.

Assessing the challenge ahead, he said in his pre-match press conference: “Well, winning Grand Slams is tough. Obviously going from clay to grass, they’re totally different surfaces, totally different game.

“Let’s say I’m going to try. Obviously, I want to put my name on that short list to win Roland-Garros and Wimbledon in the same year.

“I know it will be a really difficult and big challenge for me, but I think I’m ready to do it.

“I’ve done a great job the last few weeks just to prepare myself, just to feel comfortable to play Wimbledon here 100 percent.”

The 21-year-old discussed the challenges of returning to clay court competition from grass before moving to hard courts in preparation for the US Open.

“Well, it’s not easy to change the surface in just a week,” he explained.

“I am 100% sure that I will play in the Olympics. For me, it’s an incredible event and an incredible tournament.

“This will be my first time competing, so I really wanted to have that experience to compete in the Olympics. I’m going to go out there and give 100 percent for my country. Then, of course, the window of time we have is very short once the Olympics are over, until Toronto and Montreal.

‘Nowhere I’d rather be’ – Draper delighted with win over Alcaraz at Queen’s

Alcaraz heads to Wimbledon after the disappointment of losing his title at Queen’s following a surprise second-round loss to British number 1 Jack Draper.

Despite this setback, the Spaniard says he is in great shape as he aims for a fourth Grand Slam title.

“Well, I feel good,” he added.

“Honestly, after Queen’s, I had a lot of time to adapt my game, to train, to improve. After losing at Queen’s, I started working on my moves and shots the next day, just to be more comfortable moving around and playing on grass this year.

“I had a great training session with some great players just to assess my level. For now, I think I’m ready to start the tournament.
