Detroit Red Wings’ 2024 NHL Draft Class: Meet the New Players

The Detroit Red Wings have added eight players to the organization, ranging from a pioneer Norwegian on Friday night to a player from Michigan who will be heading to East Lansing this fall. Here are the eight draft picks:

F Michael Brandsegg-Nygard

Written: No. 15.

Nationality: Norwegian.

Last season: He split the season between different leagues, but had 18 points in 41 games for Mora in Sweden’s second-highest league, as well as 10 points in 12 qualifying games.

Buzzing: Already 6 feet 1 inch and 207 pounds, the right winger should play in the NHL at a weight close to 215 pounds. He shoots straight and loves to hit hard, but he’s also physical and has a penchant for fending off defenders and protecting the puck. The Wings hope to have filled the void for the scoring winger. He will play next season in the Swedish Hockey League for Skellefteå, the same team as 2023 first-round pick Axel Sandin Pellikka.

Buzz: The son of former NHL player Derek Plante, Plante is a 5-foot-11 playmaker with a competitive streak. He will play next season in Minnesota Duluth. The Wings have raved about his hockey sense.
