Anushka Sharma pens heartfelt message to Virat Kohli after India’s World T20 Championship triumph

Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma are one of the most famous power couples in India. No matter what they do, be it vacationing abroad or attending high-profile events, they are always in the limelight.

Although both of them are overachievers who have thrived in their respective careers, they always have each other’s backs in good times and bad. Anushka has previously been the subject of online trolls whenever Kohli failed to perform with the bat, but that has never stopped the Bollywood star from publicly showing her support for her husband.

After India ended their 17-year wait to get their hands on their second T20 World Cup trophy, Sharma showed his love for the Indian run machine with a post on Instagram that read, “AND… I love this man ❀️ @virat.kohli. I am so grateful to call you my home ❀️ – now go grab a glass of sparkling water for me to celebrate! πŸ˜‰πŸ˜˜”

Kohli, one of the game’s greats, rode into the T20I sunset after producing a classy innings that led India to their second T20 World Cup title, saying it was time for the next generation to take over.

Kohli’s 76 off 59 balls against South Africa was his last innings in a T20I for India, and it was not in vain. He didn’t have to think twice about passing the baton to the next generation players and taking the team into the future.

“It was my last T20 World Cup and that’s exactly what we wanted to achieve. It’s an incredible match. I was telling Rohit (Sharma) when we went to bat, I was like, one day you feel that you can’ “I don’t run and then you go out and then things happen, God is great,” Kohli told the host broadcasters after winning the player of the match award.

“I bow my head in gratitude. I’m really grateful that I was able to do the job for the team on the day it mattered most,” he added.

The veteran batsman hopes the next generation of players will take India to even greater heights.

β€œIt is time for the next generation to take over. It is a two-year cycle (for the next T20 World Cup), there are some incredible players playing in India. They will take the team forward in the T20 format and do wonders like we have seen them do in the IPL.

β€œI have no doubt that they will continue to fly the flag high and really take this team further.”

In 125 T20I matches, Kohli has scored 4188 runs at an average of 48.69, with 122 being his highest score. This was his only T20 century – against Afghanistan in September 2022.

Over the years, Kohli has reveled in the big occasions and on his last day as a T20I player for India, he did not deviate from that tradition.

“It was a now or never kind of situation. It’s my last T20 game for India. It’s the last World Cup I’m going to play. So, I wanted to make the most of it and that was our target. We wanted to win an ICC tournament.”
