Coldplay is now involved in ‘mime-gate’: Glastonbury spectators accuse Chris Martin of ‘joking’ during his concert, while the concerts are marred by sound problems

Fans have accused more artists of miming at Glastonbury after Dua Lipa hit back at criticism over her headline performance.

After the show, pOp-star Dua Lipa yesterday shut down accusations of miming after some fans accused her of lip-syncing during her Glastonbury set.

“I don’t mime,” the Grammy Award winner said as she toasted her success with actor boyfriend Callum Turner, 34, at an exclusive bar on the Worthy Farm festival site.

Many other bands, including Coldplay and Camilla Cabello, have been criticised for allegedly miming lyrics to their own songs, while fans have rushed to social media to share their theories.

This comes on top of other complaints about sound quality, with Cyndi Lauper’s performance on Saturday being plagued by issues.

Chris Martin has been accused of ‘blaming’ and miming as acts at Glastonbury are marred by sound problems across the board.
Coldplay headlined the Pyramid Stage on Saturday night and invited a very special guest, Michael J Fox, to join them.
Dua Lipa was the first to be accused of lip-syncing by those watching the BBC’s coverage of the festival on Friday night.

During Coldplay’s record-breaking Saturday night, frontman Chris Martin wowed the crowd after inviting an old friend to play with them.

Michael J. Fox arrived on stage in his wheelchair to play guitar during Fix You and Humankind.

It was a landmark moment for the band, who made history by becoming the first group to headline Glastonbury five times, with Chris Martin, 47, crediting Michael with being the “main reason” why they are in a group.

The British band made their debut at the iconic festival in the New Bands tent in 1999, before headlining in 2002, 2005, 2011 and 2016, and have now set the record for having headlined festival poster five times.

However, while some got carried away by this historic and surprising musical moment, some more cynical viewers suggested that Chris Martin could have mimed the lyrics of his songs rather than singing them.

Someone wrote: “Tons of mimes and backing tracks are used in this Coldplay performance. The bassist is likely to be fired.”

A second said: “There’s quite a bit of blagging and miming going on here… Loads of tunes playing in the background.”

While a third commented: “People who were complaining about Taylor Swift’s band miming or the use of backing tracks would be in for a big surprise if they saw Coldplay’s list of contributions.”

Coldplay and Camilla Cabello have been accused of miming lyrics to each other’s songs during their Glastonbury performances.

Another artist who caught the attention of eagle-eyed fans is Camila Cabello, who put on a daring performance during her concert on Saturday.

The 27-year-old singer, who rose to fame as a member of pop girl group Fifth Harmony, raised temperatures as she took to the stage in a busty top and hot shorts.

As she took the stage in the steamy ensemble, one of Camila’s backup dancers, dressed as an animal, could be seen cooling her down by rubbing a popsicle all over her body.

The Cuban-American singer rose to fame at just 15 as a member of Fifth Harmony on The X Factor US, before going solo four years later.

As viewers widened their eyes at the steamy performance, some couldn’t help but notice something amiss, accusing the singer of miming her songs.

One person posted on X: “Camila Cabello miming throughout her set, nice #Glastonbury #Glastonbury2024.”

A second wrote: “You were doing a fake lip sync – Camilla Cabello.”

It comes after Cyndi Lauper’s performance at Glastonbury on Saturday was criticised after major sound issues disrupted the set.

Another person who has been scrutinized by eagle-eyed fans is Camilla Cabello, who put on a racy performance on her set on Saturday.

This comes on top of other complaints about sound quality, with Cyndi Lauper’s performance on Saturday being plagued by problems.

Festival-goers had trouble hearing the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun singer’s voice, as her vocals were drowned out by the rumbling bass.

After a few songs, Cyndi, 71, performed Rocking Chair and she seemed to struggle with her pitch and timing.

The sound issues seemed to have been resolved by the time she got to her hit I Drove All Night.

But Cyndi faltered again on her 1984 track, Time After Time, as she lagged behind the group, suggesting she was having issues with her in-ear headphones.

Dua Lipa was the first to be accused of lip-syncing by those watching the BBC’s coverage of the festival on Friday night.

One commenter wrote on X: “Imagine paying all that money to go to Glastonbury and watch Dua Lipa mime to the song without even singing it. How awful.”

Another wrote online: “Dua Lipa delivering a Top of the Pops mime set.”

A third said: “Dua Lipa has some pretty catchy songs, but I’m pretty sure she lip-syncs it. It sounds like a live vocal, but I’m not convinced she’s singing it live ‘right now’.”

However, she set the record straight after her show and insisted that mime is not something she ever does.
