Glastonbury set to be ‘cancelled’ as festival organizers confirm when next fallow year will take place to ‘let the land rest’

Glastonbury set to be ‘cancelled’ as festival organizers confirm when next fallow year will take place to ‘let the land rest’

Glastonbury will not take place in 2026, after festival organisers confirmed it would be a fallow year.

The 2024 edition of the iconic music festival is in its final day, with Shania Twain replacing the Legends, followed by headliner SZA.

But the 2025 festival is shaping up to be a big one, with organizer Emily Eavis confirming that 2026 will be a fallow year to “let the earth rest”.

This means that festival-goers who miss out on tickets for next year’s extravaganza will have to wait 24 months for another chance to attend.

“The festival before a fallow year is always fun to plan because you’re almost integrating two years into one,” Emily told The Sun on Sunday.

Emily confirmed that they are already in talks with artists for next year’s mega festival.

She added: “This will undoubtedly be the best event in history. Every single member of our vast and incredible team is essential to making this event work.”

Dua Lipa was the first headliner of the weekend when she took the stage on Friday.

Her moment was overshadowed by calls from viewers that she was lip-syncing, but she insisted to the Mail: “I’m not miming.”

Well-informed sources also said that the mime’s claim was false.

Dua said she had dreamed of headlining the Glastonbury Festival “my whole life” as she kicked off the Pyramid Stage.

The pop superstar opened her first performance at the UK festival with impressive choreography to her hit track Training Season from her third studio album, Radical Optimism, released earlier this year.

She told the crowd: “I can’t believe it, I’ve dreamed of this my whole life. »

During her performance, the audience could be heard singing the lyrics to her 2018 track One Kiss with Calvin Harris at the top of their lungs.

Glastonbury organiser Emily said the pop star was “born” to headline the festival.

Other celebrities at the festival include Alexa Chung, actress Anya Taylor-Joy and model Cara Delevingne. TV presenter Maya Jama was also spotted with her rapper boyfriend Stormzy.

Some festival-goers opted for wacky outfits to watch the shows – with one even jumping like a kangaroo.

On Saturday, Coldplay headlined the Pyramid Stage in their fifth appearance at the festival, with actor Michael J. Fox making a surprise appearance.

Earlier, two show business veterans performed. Pop icon Cyndi Lauper performed hits including Girls Just Wanna Have Fun on the main stage.

And actor Russell Crowe arrived Friday for his festival debut, performing on an acoustic stage with his band, Indoor Garden Party.

Rockers Kasabian were the secret act yesterday, causing chaos after too many people gathered to see them and access to the stage had to be closed due to fears of overcrowding.

Glastonbury executives are understood to have asked their partners to limit celebrity invitations this year over fears the event could “lose its down-to-earth roots”.

But no one appears to have relayed this information to the swanky pop-up club Soho House, which served sea bream for £34.
