“Don’t impose your morality on filmmakers”

Anurag Kashyap's message to morality police: 'Don't impose your morals on filmmakers'

(MENAFN-IANS) Mumbai, July 1 (IANS) Filmmaker-actor Anurag Kashyap, who received a lot of positive reactions following his performance in the streaming show ‘Bad Cop’, has shared his opinion on the idea of morality in art. .

The director wondered why only members of the film community are considered responsible for bringing positive change in society – why are they criticized if they show something negative?

The author spoke to IANS and shared that a filmmaker can show whatever he wants in his films because after all, it is a fictional world.

He told IANS: “Morality is important, a filmmaker can show whatever he wants in his film (with few exceptions, morality is very subjective and very personal). People think that it is the members of the film fraternity who introduce bad things into the society or uplift the society. »

He continues: “Why is this considered the sole responsibility of filmmakers? Jisko jo banana hai wo banaaye, jisko jo dikhana hai wo dikhaaye (A filmmaker can make or show whatever he wants because it’s his film). You cannot impose your morality or worldview on others. If a person becomes so powerful that he can impose his morality on others, then he becomes a dictator.

Anurag then cited the example of Pol Pot, the communist dictator who ruled Cambodia as Prime Minister of Democratic Kampuchea between 1976 and 1979.

He told IANS: “If you read the early history of Pol Pot, you will understand where I am coming from. He was a simple doctor and his intentions were very different in his early days, and see what he has done.”

The director spoke about Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge, members of the Communist Party of Kampuchea who killed an estimated 2 million people.
