Canceled flights: 407 flights canceled in this country, passengers troubled; know the reason

Canadian airline Westjet: This problem arose due to the maintenance workers’ union strike, which forced the cancellation of 407 flights

Canadian airline Westjet: 50,000 people faced problems due to the cancellation of more than 400 flights in Canada. International and national flights are currently canceled, the reason is believed to be a strike. WestJet said in a statement that the problem was caused by the maintenance workers’ union strike. WestJet is one of the second largest airlines in Canada. The company said 407 flights had to be canceled due to the strike. This affected the travel of more than 49,000 people on the country’s international and domestic flights.

An American union implicated

The Aircraft Mechanics Association (AMFA) said its members began the strike Friday night. In a statement, WestJet president Diederick Penn said the company is doing everything it can to respond and is working around the clock to create a stable network. Meanwhile, the airline’s CEO Alexis von Honsbroch has placed the blame squarely on a U.S. union trying to make inroads in Canada. Vaughan said an agreement was reached with the union after government mediation, but the situation has changed.

In fact, on Thursday, the government issued a mediation order. After that, the sudden announcement of the strike began to affect international and domestic flights. WestJet said it would continue to park the plane until Sunday for the long weekend ending Monday, Canada Day. The airline has about 200 planes and says it will have about 30 of them operating by Sunday night.

That’s the whole deal

The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association said union members began the strike Friday night over the airline’s refusal to negotiate. Passengers faced numerous difficulties due to air travel disruptions over the Canada Day weekend. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government attempted to end the strike, but failed. At the same time, Alexis Vaughan said the union rejected a contract proposal that would have made WestJet mechanics the highest paid in the country. He apologized for any inconvenience caused to passengers.
