3 dead after ‘drunk’ driver rams speeding SUV into another car on Ahmedabad Ring Road

A speeding SUV rammed into another car on Sardar Patel Ring Road in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Monday morning, killing 3 people and seriously injuring another.

Ahmedabad accident: Three people were killed while another was critically injured after their car was rammed by a speeding SUV on a ring road in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad city early Monday morning.

According to reports, a drunk driver rammed his sports utility vehicle (SUV) into another car at breakneck speed at a ‘T’ junction on Sardar Patel Ring Road around 5 a.m. on Monday morning, leaving three people dead and one another in critical condition. injuries.

The driver was transporting illegal alcohol?

Local media reported that the accused driver was drunk at the time of the crash and was also illegally transporting alcohol, as visuals from the site showed beer cans in the SUV while others lay scattered near of the car wreck.

They also claimed that the SUV was being chased by the State Surveillance Cell (SMC). However, the agency, which monitors illegal sale of liquor in Gujarat, denied reports that its team was chasing the vehicle.

“We would like to clarify that none of our teams were chasing this SUV. It was just a rumor spread by some people,” SMC Deputy Commissioner of Police KT Kamaria said in a statement.

A PTI report, citing sources, said the SUV’s number plate was also fake and belonged to another car.

3 dead, accused in custody: police

Meanwhile, a senior officer said the accused driver was in custody and an investigation was underway to determine whether he was speeding because he was involved in illegal activity.

Giving details, Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police (West) Neeta Desai said the SUV was coming from Vaishnodevi circle and hit the other car when the latter was turning towards Rajpath Club Road.

The deceased have been identified as Om Prakash, 37, the occupant of the SUV, Ajit Kathi, 32, the driver of the other car and Manish Bhatt, 52, both residents of Viramgam town in Ahmedabad, she said.

Om Prakash and SUV driver Rajendra Sahu, who was seriously injured, are residents of Rajasthan, she said.

“The SUV heading towards Bopal hit another car, which was coming from Bopal side and was turning right towards Rajpath Club Road. Two occupants of the car and a person in the SUV died on the spot. The driver of the SUV was undergoing treatment at a hospital,” Desai said.

She said police and fire crews rushed to the scene after the accident and tried to rescue victims from the rubble.
