Steven Soderbergh Developing Project Inspired by Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour

Director Steven Soderbergh develops a project inspired by Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

Whether this mysterious, currently untitled project will turn out to be a film or a TV series remains to be seen. However, Soderbergh says that Taylor Swift’s The Era tour, as well as the concert film Eras Tour, were major inspirations.

What did Steven Soderbergh say about Taylor Swift and her next project?

He told Variety: “I’m thinking about a project where I look at large-scale cooperative initiatives that work. Airports. Why do airports work? Or AA? You look at the Taylor Swift concert, this whole tour and it works. So why can’t we understand Syria or any other conflict?”

“Humor is a great way to convey an idea and nothing lights up the brain like music. So this project has to be funny and have a musical component to open people up. I want you to come away from it feeling different after watching it.”

Soderbergh said he hasn’t seen Swift’s Eras tour live, but would if he could find tickets.

He added of the pop star: “People make fun of the fact that there’s a college course on her and I’m like, ‘There should be.’ What she does, the way she does it… No one’s ever done that before. The amount of control she’s taken over herself. She’s relentless.”

Soderbergh is known for directing films such as Sex, Lies, and Videotape in 1989, Erin Brockovich in 2000, Ocean’s Eleven in 2001, Contagion in 2011, Magic Mike in 2012, and Logan Lucky in 2017, among others.

His latest film, Presence, premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival in January. The film, which is described as a psychological thriller, stars Lucy Liu, Julia Fox and Chris Sullivan. A release date for Presence has not yet been set by Neon.

Additionally, he is working on a spy thriller with Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender titled Black Bag.
