Mount Pleasant Water Company Announces New Budget Includes Rate Increase

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCBD) – Mount Pleasant Water customers can expect their next bill to be higher than normal after a rate increase went into effect Monday.

Mount Pleasant Waterworks announced that the water company has increased its rates by 8% as part of the fiscal year 2025 budget.

MPW commissioners approved the rate increase at a meeting June 17.

“The new rates reflect MPW’s commitment to protecting public health and the environment by investing in the renewal and replacement of our infrastructure,” said MPW General Manager Allan Clum. “I want to thank the Commissioners and our staff for their efforts throughout the ratemaking process that began in May 2024.”

Some costs have been absorbed by water systems, including an increase in the contract rate for purchased water, higher insurance premiums and assistance to customers with credit problems, company officials said.
