A new ambulance service will most likely come to Alexandria, but it will not be able to respond to medical emergencies in the city.

The City Council will consider a resolution tonight to allow RIDE24 LLC, a new private ambulance service located at 2121 Eisenhower Avenue, to provide non-emergency services in Alexandria.

“Their business focuses on specialized transportation of patients to doctor’s appointments, dialysis appointments and travel to residences after hospital discharge,” city staff wrote in a note. “The company will not compete with the mission of AFD (the Alexandria Fire Department) and will not respond to medical emergencies within the city’s jurisdiction. »

If the Council approves the resolution, it will be added to RIDE24’s license application with the state Office of Emergency Medical Services.

Alexandria’s offers several transportation options for seniors and people with disabilities.
