Mets’ Brandon Nimmo suffers head injury after hotel room fall, out vs. Nats

New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo will miss his team’s road game against the Washington Nationals on Monday night after suffering a cut to his forehead in a slip and fall in his hotel room the night before.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza revealed the news to reporters Monday.

Nimmo, 31, has 13 homers and 50 RBIs with a .247 batting average and .815 OPS this season.

Fortunately, Nimmo was released from the hospital Tuesday afternoon. His next opportunity to return to the Mets will come Tuesday night. In the meantime, the Mets are reshuffling the batting order and outfield.

Center fielder Harrison Bader takes Nimmo’s usual spot at second. Regular second baseman Jeff McNeil moves to left field for Nimmo, and Jose Iglesias takes McNeil’s spot.

Despite losing two of three to the Houston Astros at home this weekend, the Mets have been in largely solid form of late, going 12-4 in their last 16 games for a 40-41 overall record. Nimmo has been on fire during that stretch with six home runs, 18 RBIs, a .339 batting average and a 1.139 OPS.

Obviously losing Nimmo is tough on the Mets, but fortunately his injury doesn’t appear to be too serious, to the point that Mendoza told reporters a return Tuesday was possible.
