Governor Shapiro Announces Distribution of Taxes and Reductions

DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Gov. Josh Shapiro and Revenue Secretary Pat Browne toured the Robert Dougherty Dunmore skyscraper in Lackawanna County on Monday.

They announced the distribution of property tax and rent reductions for 2023 starting Monday.

The Property Tax and Rent Reduction Program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older, widows and widowers age 50 and older, and individuals with disabilities age 18 and older.

This historic expansion generates more than 442,000 remittances totaling $266,000,000.

“Importantly, we would have a cola attached to it, so that year after year, as prices went up, we would get a rent break on our property taxes and never be in danger of being foreclosed again. We did that a year ago and I’m here today in Northeastern Pennsylvania, July 1st, to tell you that the checks have been delivered and seniors across Pennsylvania are getting the help they deserve in Pennsylvania today,” said Governor Shapiro.
