Mets’ Brandon Nimmo briefly hospitalized after hotel room accident

The New York Mets have been playing their best baseball of the season lately, after turning things around in June.

Unfortunately, they will be without star outfielder Brandon Nimmo on Monday due to a bizarre injury he suffered Sunday night while in his hotel room.

Manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters Monday that Nimmo suffered a gash to the head after slipping in his hotel room Sunday night, via Tim Healey of Newsday.

Mendoza said Nimmo did not suffer a concussion, but was hospitalized until just hours before first pitch Monday against the Washington Nationals.

With Nimmo out of the lineup, Jeff McNeil was placed in left field.

Nimmo is hitting .247/.367/.448 with a team-best 13 homers and 50 RBIs. In June, he hit .315 with six homers and 21 RBIs, enjoying his best month of the season along with several of his teammates.

The team started June 24-33, and is now 40-41 in July. Their fans are hoping they can pick up the slack in Nimmo’s absence, and that the star left fielder can return to the lineup soon.

Monday is the first game of a four-game series against the Nationals that ends July 4. New York does not have a scheduled day off before the All-Star break.
