A heartfelt message from Jett

Submitted by Geneviève Rohan

“I ran for Canine Mayor of Coronado in hopes of finding a FURever home for myself, my little brother, and my PAWS friends.”

In a heartwarming twist, Jett, the adorable PAWS foster dog abandoned on the streets of Coronado, was one of the candidates for Coronado Canine Mayor. Now that voting is over, he’s revealed the real reason he ran: he wanted to find a forever home. He knew that by running for office, he would meet a lot of wonderful people and one of them could take him home. Jett’s journey from shelter to spotlight has captured the hearts of many, and while he may not have won the mayoral race, he certainly won the affection of the people he met during his campaign.

“I ran for mayor not for the title, but for the chance to be seen and loved,” Jett said in a recent interview, his eyes filled with hope and gratitude. “All I ever wanted was a family to call my own.” PAWS has many amazing dogs (and cats) waiting for their owners to find them.

Jett’s story reminds us that there are still many animals waiting for their forever homes. Even though the Coronado K9 mayoral race is over, it’s never too late to make a difference. Donations to PAWS and other animal shelters are always needed to help save and support animals in need. Every contribution, big or small, can help give another dog or cat the chance at a happy life. Jett and his little brother are still eagerly waiting at PAWS for their humans to find them.

With the Fourth of July approaching, Jett wants to use her platform to remind all pet owners of the importance of keeping their four-legged friends safe during the holiday. Loud noises and fireworks can be incredibly frightening to pets, leading to an increase in escapes. Most shelters are already at capacity, so if you can foster a pet for the evening or weekend (or longer), it will help them feel safer. Did you know that the Fourth of July is the highest holiday for dog escapes? “Please keep your beloved pets inside and safe, provide them with a safe space, and make sure they have proper identification.”

Jett’s message is clear: While her journey to finding a home is ongoing, every animal deserves love, safety, and a place to call their own. Let’s continue to support PAWS – our local shelter – and donate where we can, and keep our pets safe this Independence Day.

For those who didn’t vote for Coronado’s Canine Mayor, remember it’s never too late to make a difference. Visit your local shelter, consider adoption, or help by fostering dogs so they can take a break from being caged for most of the day. Your donations help save lives.
