Return to Nature Co-Owners Offered Plea Deal for State Fees

COLORADO SPRINGS — Jon and Carrie Hallford, co-owners of Return to Nature Funeral Home, have been offered a plea deal.

Return to Nature Funeral Home is where 191 bodies were found improperly stored along Highway 115 in Penrose.

According to an email sent to victims by District Attorney Michael Allen’s office, prosecutors extended the plea deal to the Hallfords if they plead guilty to abuse of a corpse, a Class 6 felony.

Below is the plea agreement that was offered to Jon Hallford:

  • Jon Hallford to face 190 counts of abuse of corpse
  • Jon Hallford to Serve 20 Years in Department of Corrections (DOC) Concurrent with Federal Sentence

Below is the plea agreement that was offered to Carie Hallford:

  • Carie Hallford to face 190 counts of abuse of corpse
  • Carie Hallford will serve 15 to 20 years in DOC prison, concurrent with her federal sentence

Offers will expire on October 4th.
The next hearing in Hallford State Court is scheduled for July 11 at 8:30 a.m.

According to the victims, the prosecutor’s office expects the Hallfords to plead not guilty, which will begin preparations for a jury trial. The Hallfords could, however, accept that plea at this court hearing.
