PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Severe weather This weekend’s flights are causing even more problems at Philadelphia International Airport, where travelers are trying to get home for the Fourth of July. The airport is dealing with cancellations and delays Monday, with baggage piling up and some travelers having to wait more than 24 hours to catch another flight.

Last week, Severe storms caused disruptions to PHL with some travelers forced to sleep at the airport.

A week later, the airport is facing the same problem. Airlines said Monday that the bad weather is behind us cancellations and delays. So far, the airport has experienced more than 100 delays and nearly 100 cancellations.

The problems started Sunday night. Overnight, a long line of frustrated travelers formed at the airport. People waited for hours for answers.

There have been numerous delays and cancellations with American Airlines, which is PHL’s largest operator.

On Monday, an American Airlines spokesperson said in a statement: “Our team members have been working around the clock to reposition aircraft and crews, as well as assist customers whose travel plans have been impacted. We continue to work on that recovery today.”

As for baggage, an airline spokesperson said “thunderbolts” shut down runways for about four hours Sunday. On Monday, a spokesperson said American Airlines was working to “reunite customers with their bags” and that airline representatives were contacting customers when their bags were available for pickup.

For people who can’t get to PHL, American Airlines said it will deliver luggage.

Delays, cancellations and baggage issues have left many travelers to PHL frustrated.

“They lost entire days and received little compensation because they blamed it on the weather,” said Gina Gruss of Boca Raton, Florida.

“There are no flights, no hotels,” another traveler said. “We can’t leave until Wednesday. And I have sick relatives at home and I can’t go out. We have no luggage.”

Philadelphia International Airport expects to handle more than 99,000 people on Monday. Wednesday is expected to be the airport’s busiest day of the week.
