WC Farm Workers Organization Shocked by Deadly Attack on Farm Near Porterville

CAPE TOWN – The Rural and Agricultural Development Organisation has expressed shock following a deadly attack on a farm near Porterville.

The incident happened in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to police, five unknown armed men entered the victim’s home around 1 a.m.

A 65-year-old man was stabbed and his wife was tied up as the attackers ransacked the premises and fled with four firearms of different calibres, ammunition and mobile phones.

The woman managed to escape and asked her neighbours for help while her husband did not survive the attack and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Billy Claasen of the organisation visited the scene on Monday.

“We are in shock about what happened here. They are somewhere in the mountains, the police are looking for them, as well as the neighborhood guards and the security companies involved here.

“But we hope and pray that they will be found and that they will be punished and brought to justice for this horrible act,” Claasen said.

Western Cape police said their serious and violent crime detectives were working hard, following all leads in an attempt to catch the group of men responsible for the attack.
