Michael Chandler offered another UFC fight as he sets deadline for Conor McGregor to save clash

Michael Chandler claims he was offered a fight with a UFC champion after his fight against Conor McGregor fell through.

McGregor and Chandler were scheduled to meet on June 29 in the main event of UFC 303, but their welterweight bout was canceled after the Irishman broke his toe during training.

Chandler has been patiently waiting for his opportunity to face McGregor since they faced off as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter reality TV show last year.

The 38-year-old MMA star hasn’t fought since his loss to Dustin Poirier in November 2022 and is tired of seeing the twilight of his career slip away from him.

As a result, he has set McGregor a deadline of September to accept the fight, or he will move on to an alternative clash with UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday, he wrote: “I was offered @MAKHACHEVMMA in October – but if @TheNotoriousMMA’s pinky toe is ready by September, let’s do the sphere.

“The biggest sporting event in the history of sport!!!! @RiyadhSeason #ufc30.”

UFC partners with Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Season for the blockbuster UFC 306 event at The Sphere in Las Vegas on September 14.

UFC president Dana White says the company has already invested $16m (£12.6m) in the show and is expected to spend even more to book elite talent for the card.

A fight between McGregor and Chandler would be the ideal headline attraction for the marquee event, but it is unclear whether that fight can be made in that time frame.

White recently said McGregor would not return to action in August, September or October.

But the man himself said he would be ready to compete in two months.

“I would love August or September,” he told Severe MMA when asked about a potential return date two weeks ago.

“You know how it goes. I’m in recovery. It happened three weeks ago to the day. And I’m still here, swinging in my slippers.”

“They’re not bad slippers, thankfully. They’re comfortable enough, but I can’t get into shoes yet.”

McGregor has since ditched his slippers and is back in action.
