Georgia extends scholarship offer to Benedictine receiver Bubba Frazier

Georgia extends scholarship offer to Benedictine receiver Bubba Frazier

Chris “Bubba” Frazier had a sophomore season that lived up to expectations, as he was touted as the next big playmaker for Benedictine’s dynamic football offense.

The receiver/defensive back led the Cadets with 53 receptions for 753 yards with four receiving touchdowns and rushed for 319 yards on 29 carries (10.9 YPC) with three more touchdowns. As a defensive back, he had 12 tackles and an interception, which he returned 77 yards for a touchdown in a playoff win over LaGrange.

The sprinter followed his stellar sophomore year with an impressive season with the Cadet track and field team. The sprinter posted personal bests of 10.69 in the 100 meters and 21.76 in the 200. He medaled with a fifth-place finish in the 100 at the Class 4A state meet with a time of 10.74. He was a member of the Cadet 4×200 relay team that won a gold medal and the 4×100 team that finished second.

Football offers have started pouring in for the 5-foot-10, 170-pounder, as Frazier is now 10. Programs like UCF, Memphis and USF jumped into the mix early, but the biggest offer came last week when Georgia extended an offer to Frazier after his strong performance at camp, where he ran a 4.4-second 40-yard dash and excelled as a receiver.

“I’m really happy with how everything went,” Frazier said. “I feel like I had a successful sophomore season and then kept my head down and kept working hard, and now it’s paying off.”

“I feel like I’m a versatile player who can play wherever our team needs me to. This year, I’m ready to move around and get more contact with the ball. We have a talented team and we want to win another championship.”

The Cadets followed up their back-to-back Class 4A state titles with a trip to the state semifinals last year in the final season of 4-star signal caller Luke Kromenhoek, now a freshman at Florida State.

Stephen Cannon, a highly regarded junior, is expected to take over at quarterback. Frazier and Cannon have a long history and strong chemistry together as they both started out playing for Savannah Country Day.

“Bubba is a tremendous player, he’s a natural talent, but he works hard,” Cannon said. “He can beat you off the bat with his speed and he’s got great hands. But I think his best quality is his route-running ability. He’s someone you can count on to make a big play.”
