Lakers offered Klay Thompson more money per year than Mavericks

Klay Thompson chose to sign with the Dallas Mavericks despite offers from the Los Angeles Lakers, who offered more money and more years on his contract. Thompson agreed to join the Mavericks on a three-year, $50 million deal.

“The Lakers were offering more money per year and over a longer term,” Tim MacMahon said on the Hoop Collective podcast.

“By the way, where did the Lakers get that money?” Brian Windhorst replied.

“It’s obvious they were trying to cut wages,” MacMahon said.

“Because I see two salary moves made by the Dallas Mavericks. I don’t see any salary moves made by the Lakers,” Windhorst said.

“But you also know they were telling Klay, ‘We can get to that number.’ Whether they can or not, they haven’t. And they don’t need to, at least not right now.”
