Chelsea offer salary to Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori

Chelsea have reportedly offered a hefty salary to star Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori, according to a report this afternoon.

Chelsea have continued to be linked with the centre-back who can also play as a left-back, after he had a very impressive campaign at the Euros with Italy. Unfortunately, they were knocked out of the competition earlier this week and had to return home early, but that could now work out well for any club trying to sign him this summer transfer window, and Chelsea are apparently one of them.

This is expected to be the next big transfer saga, with numerous clubs named as being interested in his signature, and it also appears that his club Bologna are going to be open to selling him this window and appear to be encouraging offers (as seen in the post below).

Chelsea offer Calafiori salary

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Chelsea have already offered Riccardo Calafiori a significant salary.

If Chelsea were to land him, it would be a huge opportunity. But I think it would be almost impossible given the number of clubs that would be willing to sign him. Liverpool and Arsenal have already been mentioned, and I’m sure other clubs will come along as well. Add to that the fact that his club seem to be looking to get into a bidding war for him, and that means a bloated fee from all sides as this transfer becomes even bigger.

That’s what a good Euro does for your name, but it doesn’t help clubs who want to quietly try to sign a player. I’m sure if Chelsea really wanted to do it they could push for it, but I get the feeling they have other priorities at the moment. We’ll see what happens, I guess.
