Mercer Music at Capricorn will repeat its popular Introduction to Studio Recording Certificate course this fall. It will be offered over six Saturdays, beginning September 7, at Capricorn Sound Studios. Capricorn Chief Engineer Rob Evans will be the lead instructor, assisted by Capricorn musicians Charlie Gilbert and Miles Landrum.

This certification course, which was originally offered last fall and sold out well before the first session, will introduce participants to the theory and fundamentals of using software and hardware tools for music production, including digital music editing, multitrack recording, MIDI note capture, signal processing plugins, computer music notation software, sound design, electronic music history, and microphone technique. The course will emphasize application and creative content, using a series of project-based learning activities that include exposing students to electronic instrument performance and vocal recording, as well as multitrack recording of live instruments.

The course price is $895 and enrollment is limited to 12 participants. Mercer faculty, staff, and students can email [email protected] to receive a 20% discount code. To register or for additional information, visit https://capricorn.mercer.edu/recording-certificate-program/.

The Capricorn Professional Development Series is designed to provide educational resources to help artists, music industry professionals, and others looking to expand their skills and knowledge in the field. Previous programs in the Professional Development Series include the Capricorn Music Business Summit and the Entertainment Law Seminar. Next up on the schedule is a Songwriting Seminar on October 12.

About Mercer Music at Capricorn

After undergoing a $4.7 million restoration in 2019, downtown Macon’s historic Capricorn Sound Studios reopened in 2020 as a 20,000-square-foot multipurpose music center designed to leverage Macon’s musical heritage to create Macon’s musical future. Incorporating the original studio where Southern rock flourished and bands such as the Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker, Wet Willie and Charlie Daniels recorded in the 1970s, Mercer Music at Capricorn added a second recording studio/concert hall, as well as a museum dedicated to all things Capricorn, and a music incubator with 12 rehearsal rooms. The center also includes offices for related professionals and businesses, as well as nonprofit arts organizations. Mercer Music at Capricorn is an affiliate of the GRAMMY Museum.
