Kill: How Nikhil Nagesh Bhat Was Inspired to Make India’s Most Violent Film

Kill is touted to be the most violent film ever made in India and is set to release on July 2, 2024. Written and directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, the film stars new faces Lakshya, Raghav Juyal, and Tanya Maniktala. It is the bloodiest and most violent film ever made in Indian cinema. Kill is said to be inspired by real train robberies in India by a class of criminals nicknamed dacoits. Produced by Dharma Production and Sikhya Entertainment, the film takes the audience on the bloodiest ride. Nikhil Nagesh Bhat seems to be pushing the boundaries of cinema with his new project. He has created a film that offers a cinematic experience unlike anything the Indian audience has seen before.

An actual attack during a train journey gave birth to the idea of making Kill. Bhat narrated an anecdote that this latest action-packed film is inspired by an incident that happened during a train journey he took in 1994. He used to travel from Pune to Patna via the Bombay Janta Express in sleeper class. On one such journey in 1994-95, he was sleeping and as the Allahabad railway station was about to reach, the train stopped at a small station where some bandits boarded the train. While he was sleeping, one of the bandits in the AC class was robbed. He shared the carriage with soldiers from Danapur who said that if the bandits had tried to rob their carriage, they would have shown them. This incident remained etched in Nikhil Nagesh Bhat’s memory all his life.

Nikhil Nagesh Bhat has written this adrenaline-pumping action film during the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, he felt relentless, claustrophobic and enraged and he would sometimes put it all down on paper. It really helped him gather his emotions and put them down on paper. He says it was a good disguise. Kill, directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat and produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta under Dharma Productions, and Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain under Sikhya Entertainment, is slated to hit the theatres on July 5, 2024.
