Unfair Generalization of Bucs Offense – JoeBucsFan.com

Control team?

Joe gets it. Not everyone believes in the Bucs. That’s understandable. Joe doesn’t think and never thought that everyone should think the same way.

When someone in the nation #NFLMedia has negative things to say about the Bucs, Joe tries to keep an open mind to see if there is any truth to what they say. In this case, Joe thinks the criticism of the Bucs is out of line.

PFF Tribe’s Seth Galina appeared last week with Robert Mays on Athleticism Podcast “Football Show”. Galina is not a fan of the Bucs’ roster, with the exception of thirty-something stars like Mike Evans and Lavonte David.

Galina couldn’t believe, he said, that Bucs general manager Jason Licht, an AC/DC fan, didn’t seek out impact players in free agency. And naturally, Galina isn’t the kind of guy to play Baker Mayfield.

Then, displaying her lack of research on the Bucs, Galina mocked the attack by claiming it was a dink-and-dunk type attack.

“They’re going to be one of the best checkdown teams in the NFL,” said Galina, who is based in Montreal, complimenting the Bucs. “That’s what they were last year.”

“And for the millionth year in a row, they won’t be able to run with the ball. It’s just not stable.”

Galina may have no idea what new offensive coordinator Liam Coen will do, but he was right about the lack of a running game. The last time the Bucs had a really good running game with a 1,000-yard rusher was when Doug Martin rushed for 1,402 yards in 2015 and was named an All-Pro.

In destroying Galina’s assertion that you have to have a good running game to win, the Bucs finished 6-10 in 2015.

Joe doesn’t see the Bucs as a checkdown team. No, they weren’t a deep-throwing team like when Tom Brady and Bucco Bruce Arians were around. But it wasn’t like Rachaad White or Deven Thompkins were leading the Bucs in receiving.

Did all those long passes to Mike Evans look like checkdowns? Not to Joe.
