Mary Trump Has Message for Steve Bannon as He Is Led to Prison

Mary Trump, the respected psychologist and gay niece of Donald Trump, had a short and simple message for Steve Bannon as he was headed to prison in Connecticut yesterday.

“Have a nice stay, Steve.”

Despite her best wishes, Mary Trump has no sympathy for Bannon. A vocal critic of her uncle, Mary Trump has been equally scathing of the former president’s inner circle who helped or kept him in power.

Among them is Bannon, a Trump confidant who advised him in his quest for the presidency.

Contempt of Congress

Bannon, 70, began a four-month prison sentence yesterday at FCI Danbury. He was convicted two years ago of contempt of Congress after failing to appear for a hearing on Jan. 6 following a subpoena. He has spent that time appealing his conviction.

However, his final appeal attempt failed last week and he was ordered to report to prison.

Before heading to the prison, he held a small rally outside the prison. He told reporters: “I am proud to have gone to prison today. Not only do I have no regrets, but I am proud of what I did.”

At the press conference, Bannon was joined by Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. As they attempted to speak, a small group of counter-protesters chanted “Lock him up.” When Greene spoke on camera at The True Voice of AmericaSomeone held up a sign that read: “Bleached Blonde, Poorly Built Butch Body.”

Greene, who has long defended the January 6 insurrectionists, defended Bannon and others.

“Thousands of people are going to jail, they’re in jail, they’re spending years in jail. Some of them did nothing wrong, they just walked into the Capitol and walked out,” Greene said.

Like Mary Trump, many Internet users seem to have little sympathy for Bannon.

Bannon’s arrest comes on the same day that the Supreme Court ruled that presidents enjoy partial immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts they perform while in office. It remains to be seen what impact this will have on Donald Trump’s legal troubles and the legal actions he may face in the future.

Steve Bannon is expected to be released just before the November 2024 general election.
