Lexington Announces July 4 Road Closures

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — The week of July 4th festivities in Lexington will impact traffic through Thursday.

Planning for July 4 events in Lexington began Monday, and the events are accompanied by traffic changes and road closures.

Wednesday July 3 – Patriotic concert at Gratz Park

• Closures are scheduled from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • West Third Street, between North Broadway and North Upper Street
  • Market Street, between West Second Street and West Third Street
  • North Mill Street, between West Third Street and West Second Street

Thursday, July 4 – Bluegrass 10K, Bluegrass Fun Run, Parade and Festival

• Closures are scheduled from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Main Street, between MLK Blvd. and Upper Street
  • Short Street, between Broadway and MLK Blvd.
  • Barr Street, between N Limestone and MLK Blvd.
  • Limestone, between Vine Street and Barr Street
• Closures are scheduled from 6:45 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Richmond Road, between St. Ann Drive and Ashland Avenue
  • Main Street, between Ashland Avenue and Upper Street
  • Midland Avenue, between Main Street and Third Street
  • Limestone, between Vine Street and Second Street
  • Elm Tree Lane and Rose Street, between Third Street and Vine Street
  • Martin Luther King Boulevard between Third Street and High Street
  • Vine Street will be allowed to flow but will be diverted to Rose Street until 2pm.
  • Vine Street at Broadway will be closed from 11:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. for parade participants to exit (side streets will be able to access Vine)
  • Side streets will not have access to Main Street, Richmond Road, Elm Street, Short Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard during the 6:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. race.

Police said the area around the courthouse square will remain closed from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the parade route will have intermittent openings along Main Street with detours until Main Street at Walton Avenue is completely closed.

Thursday July 4th – Fireworks

• Closures are scheduled from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

• Newtown Pike, at Fourth Street
• Oliver Lewis Way, between West Main Street and West High Street
• West Main Street and Leestown Road, at Forbes Road
• Manchester Street to South Forbes Road

Police said Oliver Lewis Way will remain closed after the fireworks for clean-up.
