Central Alabama CrimeStoppers is offering a reward for information on a man wanted by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.

Bryant Terrell James, 40, is wanted in Lowndes County on a charge of violating the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). He is described as a black male, 5’9″ tall and weighing 165 pounds.

Lowndes County Sheriff Chris West said his office is working to locate James as quickly as possible.

“We want him here as quickly as possible,” West said. “We don’t want people who can’t comply (with SORNA requirements).”

Crimestoppers is offering a cash reward of an unspecified amount for information leading to the location and arrest of James.

States are required by SORNA to register and track sex offenders. A violation of SORNA is a federal crime and can include failing to register or update one’s residency.

The regulation applies to individuals who committed a sexual act with force, threat or incapacitation and who were at least 14 years old at the time of arrest. Compliance with the regulation is a mandatory condition for federal offenders on probation, supervised release or parole.

West said Lowndes County rarely has problems registering known offenders.

“We don’t have a huge problem with SORNA violations,” West said. “Most (sex offenders) report when they’re supposed to. Violations aren’t very common, but when we do have them, we try to get the word out as quickly and as loudly as possible because we want everyone to be aware.”

To report James’s whereabouts, immediately call the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office at (I334) 548-2323 or CrimeStoppers using the 24-hour hotline at (334) 215-STOP (7867) or 1-833-AL1-STOP.
