Video filmed by professionals METALLICA interpret the song “Whiplash” June 26 at the Tons of rocks festival in Oslo, Norway, during the band’s 2024 tour leg “M72” The tour can be seen below.

In support of METALLICAThe latest album of “72 seasons”The band played two nights in a row in each city, first in Europe, then in North America and now back in Europe, as part of “M72” tour. Each concert sees METALLICA performing on a massive ring-shaped stage, with the Snake Pit in the center, and four drum kits that are equally spaced around the circular stage so that the drummer Lars Ulrich can get closer to the audience at different times during the show.

METALLICA leader James Hetfield spoke about his state of mind before the 2024 stage of “M72”narrative “The Metallica Report”: “I don’t know what I’m getting into. I know how big the stage is. I know we have breaks here and there. I know what we’re getting into. When we started with this, with the “M72” on the stage, around the stadium, in between putting up the cones, walking around thinking, “Oh, this is how big the stage is going to be.” “Oh, this is cool.” “This is going to be great.” “This is too narrow,” and this and that. And then, between that point and when you see the stage built, where it’s a little too late, “Oh shit, this thing is so big.” The anxiety level was off the charts at the beginning of the “M72” “I’m like, how are we going to cover this stage? And of course, my ego is like, ‘Other people don’t have to sing. They don’t have to run out there. They don’t have to do all this. And nobody knows my woes and my worries.’ But as soon as I share it with other people, they’re like, ‘Yeah, but I’ve got this and that.’ It’s like, ‘Oh, okay. Okay. I want mine back. That’s good.’ So it’s known. We know what we’re up against and we know what shape we need to be in. And it’s just fun. Now it’s just fun. We’ve been running in on this stage. It’s been running in and it’s been working out. And so we can go back and do what we do best.”

He was asked if there had been any changes to the “M72” scene at all since the 2023 shows, Hetfield “There were a few things here and there that changed – extra mics, the monitors we needed. And that’s typical on any stage, though. Lighting tends to show things you don’t see before: ‘Yeah, we need to drape that’ or whatever, just things to make it better. Like anything we do, you want to make it better. So that was the first couple of months of the first tour with the band. “M72” scene.”

Regarding how he prepares for a METALLICA tour, especially when it comes to performing around 32 songs at each stop on the current tour. “M72” hiking, Hetfield “Obviously, before we go on tour, we sit there and try to remember the myriad of great songs that we have, and then you’re like, once we’re together, it’s like, ‘Oh, yeah.’ It’s muscle memory. But, yeah, in the last month, I have to say the normal thing happens when I start to doubt myself. I start to feel insecure, like, ‘Whoa, we’re old. We can’t do this,’ and blah, blah, blah, all this crap that everybody tells themselves before they start doing something that they care about and that’s important. So you have nightmares like, ‘I’m the only one who cares about what we’re doing here. Where is everybody else?'” I show up to the show. Everyone’s laughing or there’s 200 people backstage. And where’s my stuff? Where’s the set list? What songs are we gonna play? And then the typical stuff like the guitar neck is rubber and it only has two strings. And where’s my roadie? And the guitar cord won’t let me reach the mic. You know, stupid stuff like that that’s gonna happen, and it doesn’t freak me out. All you do is practice and it comes back pretty quickly.”

After Munich and Milan, METALLICA The band continued their tour of Europe during the first part of the summer, with stops in Spain, Denmark, Norway, France and Poland, among others. Another North American tour will kick off on August 2 in Foxborough, Massachusetts, with stops in Chicago, Minneapolis, Seattle and Edmonton.
