Manchester United’s interest in De Ligt has led to preliminary talks with Bayern, a promising sign that a potential deal could be on the horizon. Erik ten Hag, who worked with Matthijs at Ajax, wants him to be part of his squad at Old Trafford next season.
De Ligt is valued at €50m (£42.4m) including add-ons.
United also maintain their interest in Jarrad Branthwaite but will only return for the player if Everton’s asking price comes down.
