Delta flight from Detroit to Amsterdam forced to stop after passengers served spoiled food

ROMULUS, Michigan – A Delta Air Lines flight from Detroit to Amsterdam was forced to ground after passengers were served spoiled food.

A Delta spokesperson confirmed that Delta Flight 136 from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County was en route to Amsterdam on Wednesday morning, July 3, 2024, when it was diverted to New York’s JFK Airport.

Airline officials said food served in major cabin dining areas was spoiled. Medical teams met the plane at JFK Airport at 4 a.m. Wednesday to treat affected passengers and crew.

There were 277 passengers on board. It is not yet known how many of them ate spoiled food.

Delta Food Safety employees are trying to isolate what happened. They are in contact with the airline’s food suppliers.

Delta Flight 136 from Detroit to Amsterdam was diverted to New York’s JFK Airport early Wednesday morning after reports that some of the main cabin meals had been spoiled. Medical teams have joined the aircraft to treat the affected passengers and crew. Delta’s Food Safety Team has instructed our suppliers to immediately isolate the product and launch a thorough investigation into the incident. This is not the service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delay to their travels.
