Atlantic Sun Conference Announces Move to Divisional Scheduling for Baseball and Softball

ATLANTA – Atlantic Sun Conference Commissioner Jeff Bacon announced Tuesday the move to divisional scheduling for the 2025 ASUN baseball and softball seasons.

“Moving to a divisional scheduling model for the baseball and softball seasons will provide tremendous cost savings for our institutions, strengthen local rivalries and enhance the experience for our student-athletes,” Bacon said. “Coupled with a regionalized scheduling approach for the 2024-25 men’s and women’s basketball seasons, these changes demonstrate the Atlantic Sun Conference’s commitment, through our athletic directors and presidents, to delivering an elite student-athlete experience in a fiscally responsible manner. Our conference is in a position of strength and our destination-based members will continue to work to identify opportunities to accelerate our growth trajectory.”

In both sports, the Northeast Division includes Austin Peay, Bellarmine, Central Arkansas, EKU, Lipscomb and North Alabama. FGCU, Jacksonville, North Florida, Queens, Stetson and new league member West Georgia make up the Southeast Division. In baseball, each team plays 10 series (five home, five away) for a total of 30 games against opponents in its division. The softball schedule consists of eight series (four home, four away) for a 24-game schedule. Softball teams play three opponents in their division twice and play the other two only once.

“We are in the midst of the most transformative period in NCAA history and it is important that we continue to evaluate how we operate as a conference and make decisions that positively impact finances, competitiveness and the student-athlete experience,” said Nick Morrow, North Florida athletic director and ASUN AAC president. “The decision to move to a divisional schedule in baseball and softball will reduce the burden and costs associated with travel while strengthening regional conference rivalries.”

The softball season concludes with the 2025 ASUN Championship May 6-10 while the league crowns its next baseball champion following the postseason tournament May 20-25.
