Steph Curry breaks silence after Klay Thompson leaves Warriors

The Golden State Warriors era as we know it is over. Four-time NBA champion and sharpshooter Klay Thompson will be joining the Dallas Mavericks via trade after 13 incredible seasons with the Warriors. While the deal is not yet official, Thompson will be heading to Texas after spending his entire NBA career in Golden State.

It’s a day some thought we’d never get to see, especially Thompson’s running mate, four-time NBA champion and future Hall of Famer Stephen Curry. Curry bid farewell to his shooting guard mate in a heartfelt message he shared on Instagram.

“I’m gonna miss you @klaythompson,” Curry said. “Even though we don’t finish the journey together, what we did will never be done again. I couldn’t have imagined a better journey with you and @moneyg23green. You changed the entire Bay Area. You changed the way the game is played. Killa Klay at the center of it all. Thanks for everything bro. Go out there, enjoy basketball and what you do. Splash Bros 4 life my man.”

What Curry and Thompson did together will never be replicated. Along with their third running mate, Draymond Green, they built one of the most successful dynasties of the current era. Together, these three led the Warriors to four NBA championships in the eight seasons from 2015 to 2022. On top of that, they changed the way the game is played as we know it today. They shattered narratives that people thought were unbreakable. They are arguably the greatest duo in the history of the game and, arguably, the greatest shooting duo we will ever see.

The end of the road has arrived, and Curry clearly has strong emotions. When the Warriors were eliminated from play-in contention, Curry was asked about the possibility of free agency for Thompson. Curry responded that he wanted to get back in the game with his longtime teammate.

“I would never see myself without those two guys,” Curry said of Thompson and Green. “I understand this league is evolving and there’s so much that goes into it, and we’re not going to play forever. But we’ve been through so much together, that at the end of the day, I know they want to win, I know I want to win. That’s all I care about.”

Curry still has Green by his side, but Thompson’s absence will have to be a thing of the past for the upcoming season. Curry and Thompson will forever be together in basketball history.
