Las Vegas Raiders roster gets shocking evaluation

Early in the offseason, the Las Vegas Raiders began their search for a general manager and decided to go with veteran general manager Tom Telesco.

Upon his arrival, Telesco went to work, using free agency and the NFL Draft to address the Raiders’ biggest roster needs. Telesco strategically added starting-caliber players and depth pieces to a Raiders team that still had many vacancies. Telesco continued to add players,

Telesco strategically added starting-caliber players and depth pieces to a Raiders team that still had many vacancies. Telesco continued to add players, significantly improving the Raiders’ roster from the previous season.

However, Ian Valentino of the 33rd team rates the Raiders as the 10th worst team in the league.

“The Las Vegas Raiders’ extremes will make them a fun team to watch in 2024,” Mosher said. “Whether it’s Aidan O’Connell or Gardner Minshew at center, they’ll have to lean heavily on the strengths of an offense with a stable running back and a lack of depth at receiver. The good news is that Davante Adams, Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer are all capable of making big plays.”

“Consistency is the problem for a young unit without a defined third receiver and a starting running back for the first time since Josh Jacobs left for Green Bay. The offensive line will benefit from the addition of second-round pick Jackson Powers-Johnson, but it’s still not a reliable unit. Playing in the AFC West meat grinder will expose the team’s issues more than in most divisions.”

The Raiders offense made some roster changes this offseason. Conversely, the Raiders defense is returning all of its starters, giving them a kind of continuity that many Raiders units don’t have right now, players or coaches.

“The defense is in the same boat,” Mosher said. “The defensive line is beyond formidable, with Maxx Crosby and Christian Wilkins leading the way. The big question is whether the pass defense will once again rank in the top 12 in yards and touchdowns allowed despite the individual talents failing to play at a star level. That could change as Robert Spillane, Jack Jones and Tre’von Moehrig continue to improve. If not, the Raiders could see some regression on defense.”
