Dean McDermott Celebrates One Year of Sobriety With Heartfelt Message

Dean McDermott celebrates a milestone.

The 57-year-old actor and reality TV star took to Instagram on Monday to announce that he has been sober for one year. McDermott posted an image of a homemade poster made by his children commemorating the special occasion.

In his emotional caption, McDermott expressed his deep gratitude to his support system. “This past week has been an incredible week of love, hugs, and recovery. Thank you to my godfather, godbrothers, and everyone in the community for celebrating my first birthday,” he wrote. In April, McDermott shared a message on Instagram about his sobriety and his desire to stay positive despite his divorce from Tori Spellingstating, “If all you did today was stay sober, you still win. Keep it up.”

In a candid interview with the Daily Mail In November 2023, McDermott acknowledged that his substance abuse issues were a significant factor in his split from Spelling.

“Alcohol made me feel good. I started feeling good until I started feeling bad again, and I ended up in solitary confinement,” he said. “I ended up drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week, and a handful of narcotics (prescription drugs) by myself, with a beautiful family in the other room.”

McDermott continued: “That’s what it led to and that’s what led to the breakup and what happened between Tori and I. I couldn’t do it anymore. I couldn’t live this life anymore. I was tired of the anger and the yelling.”
