Dallas-Fort Worth Flight Delays, Cancellations as Severe Storms Hit North Texas

Flight delays and cancellations are mounting at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport Wednesday as severe storms rage across North Texas.

According to FlightAware, more than 300 flights were delayed as of 4 p.m., or 28 percent of departing planes. At least 188 flights out of DFW were canceled. One traveler reported on X that passengers were waiting up to an hour to retrieve their bags as lightning prevented ground crews from working.

Much of north and central Texas is under a tornado watch through Wednesday evening, covering 36 counties.

Fort Worth-based American Airlines was the hardest hit by the delays, with at least 694 flights nationwide Wednesday, nearly a fifth of its daily schedule. More than 200 of the airline’s flights have been canceled.

Strong storms are expected to hit the South from Louisiana to Tennessee this evening.
