Two minors arrested, accused of carrying firearms following a traffic stop

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) — Two teenagers are facing gun charges after San Diego sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop in San Marcos.

A news release from the sheriff’s department said that shortly after 8:30 p.m. Monday, deputies stopped an SUV for a traffic violation near Pico Avenue and Richmar Avenue.

The two 17-year-old juveniles inside the SUV fled the scene, each throwing a gun. The sheriff’s dog located both abandoned weapons, the release said. One was privately manufactured, while the other was a ghost gun.

The sheriff’s department said the two juveniles were booked into the East Mesa Juvenile Detention Center, where they are charged with carrying a loaded firearm in a public place or on the street and possession of a firearm without a serial number.

This is an ongoing investigation and the sheriff’s department has not released the identities of the two juveniles.
