Riccardo Calafiori: Bologna president admits club will consider offers for player on Manchester United's radar

Bologna technical director Giovanni Sartori has admitted that the Italian side will consider offers for Manchester United defensive target Riccardo Calafiori.

Strengthening the back line is a top priority for United in the current summer transfer window and already INEOS are taking steps to bring in reinforcements.

United have made an offer for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite but the Toffees have rejected it. Erik ten Hag’s side are expected to make another bid.

Meanwhile, United are also actively pursuing an attempt to acquire Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich and talks are still ongoing with the Bundesliga giants to complete a deal for the Dutch defender.

It has been claimed that United have contacted Lille to declare their interest in the French side’s young defensive prospect Leny Yoro.

A previous article covered by The Peoples Person revealed that another centre-back United are keen to sign is Bologna’s Calafiori. The Italy international shone as Bologna qualified for the Champions League last season before impressing for his country at Euro 2024.

Following Italy’s elimination from Euro 2024, interest in Calafiori is expected to increase, with clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Juventus also said to be admirers of the 22-year-old.

Bologna have been reported to want around €40m for Calafiori – a fee that United would not mind at all.

Bologna president Sartori spoke to the media (via Fabrizio Romano) and said that while the Rossoblu’s desire is to keep Calafiori, it is more realistic for him to leave for pastures new.

Sartori said of United’s target: “I can confirm that we will consider offers for Riccardo Calafiori.”

“It would be fantastic to keep him, but we have to be realistic.”

He added: “If there is a good proposal, we will discuss it; and we expect foreign clubs to move.”

Last season, Calafiori made 30 Serie A appearances and helped Bologna keep half of their clean sheets. He also scored two goals.
