Druski Tried to Stop DJ From Playing ‘Not Like Us’ at BET Awards Party

Druski and Drake have known each other for a long time. The comedian made a cameo in Drake’s 2021 music video for “Laugh Now, Cry Later.” When Druski made jokes about Young Money boss Birdman in 2023, the 6th God stepped in and warned him to be careful. They seem to have each other’s backs when it comes to big celebrities. Druski kept that loyalty alive on June 30, when the comedian tried to convince a DJ to stop playing a Drake insult at a BET Awards after-party.

In the Instagram video, Druski is seen gesturing to the DJ and signaling him to cut the road. Despite his efforts, Kendrick Lamar’s number one single, “Not Like Us,” continued to play. It may not have worked, but Druski was asking a DJ to stop playing Lamar in Los Angeles, so this was going to be an uphill battle. It was worth a try, at least for him. Druski has maintained that he supported Drake throughout the K. Dot battle, but this is the first time fans have gotten to see that support in action. Part of the reason Druski is indebted to the 6 God is that he gave the comedian such a huge boost early on in his career.

Druski recounted the experience of meeting Drake in an interview with BillboardHe compared it to meeting the president. “I’m sitting in a room and they’re like, ‘Drake’s going to come talk to you.’ People come in and check me out and I’m like, ‘Okay. Where is he?’ He comes in with like a security fleet,” Druski recalled. The comedian then digressed about Drake’s scent. “You can smell this guy before he even walks in the room,” he noted. “So I was like, ‘What the hell is that? This whole room smells like heaven. Cologne doesn’t even smell like that.’ I was like, ‘What the hell? Did they spray this whole room with something?’”

Drake gave Druski flowers in return. He participated in an Instagram Live with Druski shortly after the release of Certified Lover Boy He also joked that things were down after the album’s release, despite it having gone platinum. “It’s been really down since the album came out,” he joked. “I’m not gonna lie. It’s slowed down. It’s kind of a downward spiral.” While those words may seem more prophetic in light of recent events, the fact remains: Druski and Drake are close. It’s going to be a long summer of “Not Like Us” for both of them.
