Saudi Arabia team have now offered £50m deal to sign ‘exceptional’ Man City star, journalist claims

Manchester City have a history of selling players to clubs in Saudi Arabia.

More specifically, during the previous summer transfer window, the Citizens sold Riyad Mahrez to Al Ahli and Aymeric Laporte to Al Nassr.

Despite this, Pep Guardiola’s side managed to regain the Premier League title last season and become the first team to win four league trophies in a row.

Now that a new summer transfer window has opened, a Middle Eastern club have once again set their sights on signing one of City’s key players.

Saudi Pro League club sends contract offer to Ederson

In a recent post on his X account, journalist Cesar Luis Merlo claimed that Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr had offered Ederson a two-year contract worth €60m (£50m).

The journalist then added that if the Brazilian gave the green light to this transfer, the Saudi club would then approach City to negotiate an agreement.

Ederson is essential for City

City paid £35million to sign the goalkeeper from Benfica in the 2017 summer transfer window.

During his time at the Etihad Stadium, the Brazilian made 332 appearances in all competitions, keeping 155 clean sheets and winning numerous trophies along the way.

The 30-year-old, whose performance in the 1-1 draw against Real Madrid during City’s title-winning campaign was described by Guardiola as “outstanding” (via Manchester Evening News), featured in 43 games last season, underlining just how important he is to the team as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Having also been described by Danny Murphy last May as one of the best goalkeepers in Premier League history, we believe that if Ederson were to leave the club this summer it would be a huge blow for the Blues.

Going forward, we believe City should do everything they can to convince their goalkeeper to stay and not be sidetracked by a potential move to Saudi Arabia.
